President's Corner

Melinda Condon
President MPMPI

As I mentioned at our May 5 meeting at the Civil War Museum, it’s always a day of celebration for our chapter.  Each month when we hold another successful meeting and provide you with valuable and varied information, we are taking continued steps forward to being a lasting, solid MPI chapter.   In June, we’ll celebrate our second anniversary.

Just like May 5’s Cinco de Mayo and the hallowed war museum in which we held our monthly meeting ….our second anniversary is a victory.  But, victories don’t usually come without costs, sometimes large battles and small skirmishes, retreats followed by creative solutions, blood, sweat and tears, etc., etc.  I would in no way ever presume that our little chapter of MPMPI compares to the civil wars that have been waged over the years by individuals fighting for what they believed in.  But, I would dare to say that MPMPI has assembled an army, albeit a small one, who is marching our area meeting professionals forward.

By July 1, you will have a new slate of officers.  I am excited that these folks have joined forces and will take MPMPI into the next stage of our development.  It’s these people and you – our members – who make our chapter successful.

As we battle on with a renewed and enthusiastic board, we must thank those who are leaving the board, after many, many months of service.  Theda Bonetis has served as VP of Education and then President-Elect.  With her usual style and grace, Theda established a strong education committee and guaranteed that members would attend monthly meetings because of the high quality of our programming and speakers.  Theda led our first official nominating committee and provided our chapter with a strong slate of officers to take the chapter into the future.  Theda has been an integral part of MPMPI and we won’t be the same when she leaves for France.

Janine Owen has been our VP of Finance from day one.  We are a solvent chapter, working with a sound financial foundation.  Thank you, Janine, for ensuring that our checkbook balanced and that our numbers were far from red!  Valerie Tulli stepped in as VP of Membership 18 months ago and has enhanced and expanded our efforts to attract, retain and care for our membership.  She worked closely with a solid committee to establish practices and procedures for our most valuable asset….our members!  Thank you, thank you, thank you….to Janine, Theda and Val for their terrific efforts, commitment and leadership.  MPMPI is better because of you!

As of July 1, I know you join me in welcoming Sandy Sipe as our 2010-11 MPMPI President.  I will happily continue to serve as Past President.  It’s been an honor and a delight to have served as your president and to have helped our chapter grow.  Thanks for coming along for the ride….

Best,
Melinda
